Religions of Mankind
It is perhaps one of the oldest
philosophical thoughts of humanity, but the origin is uncertain. One highly
probable origin may be- primitive humans seeking refuge against the rage of
natural forces by worshiping the forces, or making sacrifices before the idol
of forces- like storms, volcanoes, fires, and predatory/beneficiary creatures.
This origin of religions may explain the rise of polytheism in the beginning,
then transforming into the monotheistic religions of the current world. According
to some estimates, there are roughly 4000+ religions in the world. But in terms
of world population percentile, the major religions are- Christian31.50%,
Muslim 23.20%, Hindu 13.8%, Buddhist 6.77%, Sikh 0.35%, Jewish 0.22%, Baha'i
0.11%, and other religions 10.95%. There are also non-religious, and atheist
populations in the world.
In this section, we will
attempt to learn about the major religions, their origin, history, belief
system, way-of-life, rituals, and so on.
